What is a Virtual Walk?
Because we cannot all meet like years past, we need to walk collectively in our smaller groups (families, etc.). This year’s JDRF One Walk will be our first nationwide endeavor, walking together from wherever we are to form the biggest walk this community has ever seen. So, this means any of you who couldn’t make it to Harrisburg in the past, can still walk to support Davis, right where you are!
Nationally, JDRF has a goal of collectively walking 1.6 million miles, and raising $50 million. Times are strange, and this will not be easy. But if any organization can make this happen, it’s JDRF! So, as you venture out (yes, you can count several days!), record how many miles you walked, and tally it all up for your own team to send to me!
What Can We Do?
The easiest thing is to set aside the afternoon of Sunday, November 1, like you would be joining us in person, and gather up your household members, and go for a walk! If you have DA4D shirts, please wear them in solidarity with us! And while you are out and about, grab some photos of your walkers, and if you can, grab a short video (15-20 seconds) of yourselves on the walk, or sending good thoughts to Davis! Then email those photos and videos to me at mark@da4d.org, so I can edit them all together into one full Walk video! JDRF supplied some good tips for recording, and I am sharing those below. (Oh yeah, if that day isn’t good for you, feel free to do it earlier that week!) Please send photos and videos by the end of the day on November 1 – or reach out with any questions!
Please follow this simple chart for DOs and DON’Ts when recording your remarks at home (or out walking!). The main thing is to record in landscape (horizontal screen, like a movie) and not portrait, so we can maximize the edit.

Walking as a small group won’t be as fun, but it is a great idea! But, can we still donate too?
Of course you can! And it’s super simple to do! Just go to http://www2.jdrf.org/goto/da4d and click on the blue DONATE TO DAVIS button! Easy peasy!
We want to be joiners! Sadly, we don’t have DA4D shirts though. How do we get them?
Just send me a quick message, or email me at mark@da4d.org, and I will take care of you! But I need you to do this by Friday, October 16, so we can get the shirts ordered!
Is there anything else we should know before we start kicking butt with Dumbledore’s Army for Davis?
YES! Whether or not you donate, if you plan on walking, please, please, please register for the walk itself. Go to this link (https://www2.jdrf.org/site/TR?fr_id=8108&pg=entry), click REGISTER, then scroll down to “Join a Team,” and follow directions from there (search for our team name (Dumbledore’s Army for Davis)).
Thank you all so much for your ongoing and undying support over the years. This year is strange in so many ways, but the good we have seen has been truly good. If you have any questions, or need more information, please reach out. Our schedule is certainly more flexible these days!
Yours for a Cure,
Mark, Nicole, Davis, and Jude
